Pattern: Needle Case

Needle Case

All my needles needed a home and I decided to sew a needle case for them: One case for the normal needles and one for the circular knitting needles. There are several tutorials about needle cases on the Internet and I picked up ideas here and there to make my own. A needle roll would probably be to clumsy for all my needles, so I decided to make a case that can be folded.

Materials

0,5m Amy Butler fabric in green

0,5m Amy Butler fabric in matching green

0,5m interfacing (vlieseline)

5m ribbon band (skråbånd)

Tutorial

Cut the following pieces from the fabric:

For the outer fabric 54cm width x 52cm height

For the inner lining 54cm width x 52cm height

The interfacing is  54cm x 52cm

The big needle compartment is 54 x 31cm

The medium 20cm x 54cm

The small compartment is 15cm x 54 cm

Cut 2 x 25cm bands and 2 x 60cm bands. Fold the bands and sew them together, so they become narrow bands.

Sew the upper edges of each compartment.

Sew the big compartment onto the lining, then the medium compartment and at last the small compartment. Make as many pockets as you need and keep in mind the big needles need more space. When sewing the medium and small compartment, sew exactly on the same seams as you did with the big compartment. This way you will have enough space for the big needles in the big compartment.

Make sure when you sew the pockets, that you divide the needle case in 3 equally sized parts, so it is easy to fold the case when you want to tie it with the ribbon band.

Place lining, interfacing and outer fabric on top of each other and pin together with pins. Sew all 3 fabrics together with the band (skråbånd). Place 4 ribbon bands at the right side and sew together with the band.

Circular Needle Case

All my needles needed a home and I decided to sew a home for them: One case for the normal needles and one for the circular knitting needles. There are several tutorials about needle cases on the Internet and I picked up ideas here and there to make my own. Here is how I made the circular needle case:

Materials

0,45m Amy Butler fabric in pink

0,3m Amy Butler fabric in matching pink

0,45m interfacing (vlieseline)

4m ribbon band (skråbånd)

Tutorial

Cut the following pieces from the fabric:

For the outer fabric 54cm width x 41cm height

For the inner lining 54cm width x 41cm height

The interfacing is 54cm x 41cm

Two times cut 54 x 14cm for the 2 compartments

Cut 4 bands so you can tie the case.

Sew the upper edges of each compartment

Sew the  compartments on top of the lining. Make as many pockets as you need and keep in mind the big needles need more space.

 Amy Butler Knitting Bag

Pattern: Simplicity nr. 4626

Materials: 0,75 m Amy Butler fabric in green. 0,75m Amy Butler fabric in brown/orange. 0,75m interfacing and 0,5 m ribbon band.

For months I’ve been looking for a knitting bag, but couldn’t find any that I found was worth the price.  A week before Christmas I found this little shop with Amy Butler fabrics and decided to sew my own bag. The pattern was easy and I’m very happy with the result:

Amy Butler Knitting Tools Bag

Pattern: Amy Butler  make up bag pattern.

Materials: 0,3m Amy Butler fabric in green. 0,3m Amy Butler fabric in brown/orange and one 20cm zipper.

When I knit I always need to have stitchmarkers, scissors and measuring tape at hand. So I made this little matching bag to go into the big knitting bag:
